Greetings from Team Shaastra 2018!
Shaastra 2018 will be the 19th edition of IIT Madras' annual technical festival. We, at team Shaastra, envision this year to break many boundaries and deliver the biggest Shaastra ever! ISO certified and attracting a demographic diversity that few can boast of, Shaastra remains unrivaled among its peers.
We are very excited about partnering with the Class of 1978 in our mutual endeavour to make the world more technologically empowered! Class of 1978 will be the theme partner of Shaastra with the Clean Energy Competition as the flagship event!
Plan for the Clean Energy Competition
The Summit has been one of Shaastra's biggest events in the past few years. With topics such as Healthcare, Makers & Accessibility, it has reached out to a wide variety of audience and has become one of the events to look forward to, at Shaastra.
This year, we shall host the Clean Energy Summit. We shall have one track - "Clean Energy in Villages" running through the semester. This track has been chosen so that we get implementable solutions with tangible impact within the given timeframe. The plan is to start this one track a few months before Shaastra in order to get more implementable Action Plans. The possibility of product development can be looked into as well but has a lot of feasibility issues given our constraints with time and finance.
During the four day event at Shaastra, the Clean Energy Summit will focus on the other aspects of Clean Energy with one topic taken up each day. We shall be partnering with experts in each field so as to give the participants a holistic experience.
Shaastra has a huge scope for creating drastic impact in the world and all of us are very committed towards this cause. During Shaastra 2017, we organised the first ever Hackathon for the Visually Impaired where we trained a few blind students in computer programming. We also developed solutions towards making the Indian Railways more accessible to People with Disabilities. These are only a few cases where Shaastra has contributed significantly towards making the world a better place. This year, we plan to make it bigger with the Clean Energy Summit!
It is very heartening for us to see the Class of 1978 coming back and contributing towards this cause. We hope that this will lead to more alumni interaction, involvement and contribution towards Shaastra.
We hope that the Class of 1978 is as excited about Shaastra 2018 as all of us are. We are looking forward to exciting times ahead!
