The IITMAA, with the assistance of the IITM Student Body, launched in october 2009, the iitmaaMentor program to address the mentoring needs of the students at the IIT Madras campus. Mentors are primarily drawn from the Alumni Community.IIT Madras alumni will be able to join the program as Mentees from January 26, 2010.

Mentorship refers to a developmental relationship between a more experienced professional and a less experienced protégé or mentee. The mentor is someone who has ´been there, done that´ before. Mentors inspire their mentee to follow their dreams.

Purpose of the Program

• To provide guidance and counseling to students and other alumni by experienced Alumni
• Mentors inspire their mentee to follow their dreams
• To leverage the best practices, values, success stories and wisdom of Alumni to contribute to continually raising the standards at IITM.

About the Program

IITmaaMentor is an online program to facilitate a means of interaction and networking between the experienced IITM Alumni, as Mentors, and IITM Alumni and student s as Mentees. The working of the website will be similar to the social - networking websites that we use daily but built specifically to meet the needs of the student and alumni mentees. Each Mentee will be assigned to an experienced alumni based on his/her career interest. Typically we expect that, these alumni will mentor their Mentees through out the year and help them in shaping their career. In this typically year-long relationship a Mentee can look forward to guidance, counselling and career related advice from their mentors and benefit from it. Live Mentoring sessions will also be organised from time to time where mentees can directly meet their mentors and interact.

Registration Process

• Students: Only final and prefinal year students from all branches and degrees at IIT Madras will be allowed to register.
• Alumni: All IITM alumni can register as Mentor or Mentee or both.
• During registration, Mentees will have to mention their career interests and fields in which they would like to be mentored. Based on these interests the Mentees will be given the option to chose his / her mentor. A student Mentee will be allotted to a maximum of two mentors strictly subject to availability.

List of Career interests to choose from:

Core jobs, IT jobs, Consultancy Jobs, Finance Jobs, PSU jobs, Research, Higher Studies (M.S., PhD, MBA), Civil Services, Technical Services, Entrepreneurship etc.

Program Launch

Student Mentoring Program was officially launched on 30^th October 2009.. Alumni Mentoring Program will be open for registration from January 26, 2010.

Executive Sponsor

IITMAA will be the Executive sponsors and managers of this Program, with support from the Institute, Faculty and the Students. The Program will focus on Career related mentoring. The Program will supplement (and not replace) other mentoring/ counselling programmes at IITM. IITMAA will not take any responsibility for the content of interactions between the Mentor and Mentee and the advice given by the Mentor.
