This is an announcement about the launching of our year-long celebration events for IIT Madras, which was inaugurated on 31st July 1959. The Institute is entering the 50th year of its foundation on 31st July 2008 and will be celebrating its Golden Jubilee through out the year from 31st July 2008. The celebrations will be inaugurated at 4:00 pm on 31st July 2008 in our Students Activities Centre (SAC) by Shri Arjun Singh, Hon'ble Minister for Human Resource Development, Government of India. Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Dr. Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi will preside over the function.

Some of the old students of IIT Madras, who passed out in the year 1972, have joined to-gether and formed a Trust called IIT Madras 72' Batch Scholarship Trust. The aim of the trust is to help the needy students to continue the Education in IIT Madras.
The new IITs opening this year will have a delayed start to their first academic session because the government has failed to deliver after scrambling to announce the institutes’ conception.
